Ch. 4: The Sporting Competition Begins!

The town was blanketed in a serene light…

At last, the day of the sporting competition arrived.

Fireworks dyed the blue sky, signaling the start of the events.

OO: "Wow…! Amazing!"

Various events were being held throughout the town, and voices were raised in cheers and shouts.

The fragrant scent of roasted meat and the sweet smell of maple wafted from the street vendors.

It looks fun, just like a festival.

OO: "Um, where is Eins competing…?"

From my vantage point by the river, I searched for the sword tournament.

I’d like to hurry and see Eins’ smile.

The sword tournament was in a great hall at the center of town.

Upon entering, I found Eins among the other athletes all waiting for their turn.

Among so many others, Eins was calm as he sat alone.

OO: "Eins."

Eins: "Y-yo OO!"

Eins stood and smiled.

I relaxed as I saw him.

OO: "It’s almost time."

Eins: "That’s right, almost time!"

OO: "I hope you can show everyone how hard you’ve been working!"

Eins: "That’s right! I hope I can show everyone!"

OO: "…aim for victory, and do your best."

Eins: "That’s right! I’ll do my best!"

Eins...?

[CHOICE]

  • I'll be cheering [SUN]

  • Are you nervous? [MOON]

Eins is acting kind of strange…

I stared at him and his gaze wandered.

OO: "...are you alright?"

Eins: "Uh..."

OO: "Eins...?"

Eins: "Don’t look at me like that! Anyway, I’m fine! You can look forward to watching me!"

He smiled, and I could tell it was forced.

But…

OO: "Alright."

I smiled at him and went outside the waiting room.

I guess I shouldn’t make him any more anxious. Though I really wish he could talk to me about anything…

I felt lonely as I thought of how he couldn’t express what was on his mind.

At that time…

Eins: "What’s wrong with me! This isn’t like me at all!"

I heard Eins’ irritated voice coming from behind the door.

Eins…??

...

......

Finally, the sword competition started.

Eins continued to miss, and it seemed as if he’d have no luck in the match at all.

Eins: "Dammit! Why can’t I do this!?"

An impatient look crossed his face.

Eins: "I just wanted to show OO how cool I am! Yet if she just looks at me, I…! Why are my heart and hands shaking so much…!! What is this burning feeling I get every time I look at her!?"

Then...

OO: "Eins, you can do it!!"

OO’s cheer reached Eins’ ears.

Eins: "!! That’s what it is! The word that can express this feeling!"

Steadying his breathing, Eins gripped his sword.

OO: "I'll be cheering for you."

Eins: "That’s right! Cheering…I mean, please do!"

OO: "Are you nervous?"

Eins: "That's right! I'm...I mean, there's no way I'd be nervous!"
