Story - Hinata

So because of the half-stamina campaign encouraging everyone to grind through the Main Story (so you can get that secret Navi awakening!) I've decided to spend a little time translating the Main Story characters. Their stories tend to be shorter than the average 3-star so they don't take as long, and they're characters everyone gets eventually. So at the moment my intention is to do them in order of appearance.

And that is why Hinata is first, despite the fact that Hinata is my least favorite! I'm not a big fan of the loli-shota characters (cutesy young boys) and reading Hinata's story did not change my mind on that. I will say though that I have definite preference for the SUN route!

The one thing I want to bring up is Hinata's way of speaking. Hinata is young-ish, being canonically 15, but he speaks far more like a child than his age would imply. I did my best to make Hinata's words come across as childish to an English reader. You'll notice lots of ~ symbols in his lines, which is a Japanese method for making the character sound more cute and child-like, so I've kept those in to help keep that impression.

I also chose to keep the -chan suffix that he uses when talking. -Chan is one of the more common Japanese suffixes, usually used when referring to a young girl or child, someone lower in rank than you. But young children use it too as a way of being cute, so it fits with Hinata despite the fact that our Main Character is most definitely older than him! As you may have noticed in my other translations, I either translate or completely remove the suffixes because a lot of times it just doesn't work in English. But with Hinata, I felt keeping his child-like nature as intact as possible was the most important. So this one time, I've kept the suffix, and probably will do so in the future when I translate the other young princes (if they use it) as it's really one of the best ways to imply the youth of the character, and there's not really a good English equivalent. I might write something up later about suffixes themselves, but for now you can just enjoy reading Hinata's story!
