My goal of getting Raith's story finished before the weekend has been met! Raith was a relatively easy translation. He's pretty much a hippy, speaking casually and wanting to spread art and music to the world while avoiding conflicts. If anything, my biggest problem was fighting back the natural urge to spell his name 'Wraith' each time I typed it.
Raith also has a tattoo, just like the other royal poisoner families in the Land of Poison. Whereas Forma has an ant, and Sakia has a butterfly/moth, Raith has a ... grasshopper, which last time I checked was not poisonous. I don't know how that fits into the Land of Poison...but it fits Raith personally because he plays the violin.
Raith's older brother, on the other hand, was a different story when it came to translation. This guy uses the term アイツ when referring to his younger brother, such as in this line from Chapter 2:
「弟が約束を破りましたか？まったくアイツは」
Literally translated, アイツ just means 'that person'. When talking to Raith face to face, he uses お前 , translated as 'you', again like this other line from Chapter 2:
「 ...まったくお前は ！」
Why am I mentioning this? Well, there is a lot of heavy implication in these two words choices. Both are derogatory, used to refer to someone you find inferior (though お前 used to be more honorific). This means every time Raith's brother talks about him or to him, he's talking down to him. While this is clear in the Japanese, the disgust the older brother has for Raith doesn't come off as strongly if I just translate it as 'that guy' and 'you'. So I had to use a little more creativity when translating the brother's lines in order to properly get that dislike across. Raith's brother should probably get some counseling or therapy or something before he ascends the throne.
