The first 2-star prince story for July is Sharon, our young prince of the desert. I went into this story with...low expectations. Given the story quality for Luke and Medi, the obligatory 1-star princes, I wasn't expecting much from Sharon. And, I was pleasantly proven wrong. I wouldn't say the story is great, but it's definitely better than I was expecting. Sharon's youth really comes across in the story, and it's kind of endearing. I never pair the main character with these younger guys as romantic partners, the age difference just doesn't work for me. But Sharon's story did the job of being cute and entertaining.
There's nothing really to talk of in regards to difficulties with translation. He speaks more masculine and casual, but after translating Sky, I was already in the right mindset for it! If anything, the one trouble I had was Sharon's name. The romanization of the names isn't always ... accurate. At first glance it looks like the female English name, Sharon, as in a "Sharon from accounting" kind of thing. I read it in my head as "Syaoran" like from the Tsubasa series. But I figured maybe there was a better way to write his name out, so I began looking into where his name comes from, as I now do with all the princes I translate. Turns out, nope, Sharon is the best way to write it. However unlike "Sharon from accounting" where the emphasis is in the beginning, SHA-ron, I believe the proper way to read this character's name is sha-RON, going for the more Hebrew pronunciation. Not that I speak Hebrew of course, but this has the whole thing making way more sense in my head now!
